Eurostarbus

In late September 2004 (21st, 22nd and 23rd), in cooperation with the European movement in Serbia, and with the assistance of the Embassy of the Netherlands, Great Britain, Sweden, British Council, European Agency for Reconstruction and European Union Delegation in Serbia and Montenegro, we have organised a promotional-educational campaign "Eurostarbus" - "My city in Europe".
This campaign consisted of promotional activities in public squares of Bijelo Polje, Podgorica and Nikšić, where the activists of the European Movement in Montenegro (EMIM) and European Movement in Serbia (EMIS) who arrived in specially equipped busses carrying promotional material organised a knowledge competition for the primary school students in those cities, distributing promotional leaflets to the students gathered citizens.

Within this same project we organised an art competition among the primary schools on the topic: "My city in Europe". Some secondary schools joined in, organising lectures on the European Union topics (peer education).
Lastly, there has been a series of public discussions between the citizens of Montenegro and the representatives of the European diplomatic corpus in Montenegro (among which we should emphasise the presence of the Ambassador of Finland, Ambassador of Poland, Dutch Embassy senior advisor, Head of the German Embassy office in Montenegro, as well as representatives of the European Commission Delegation and the European Agency for Reconstruction).

Public debates were preceded by official visits of those diplomats to the Majors of three municipalities of Bijelo Polje, Nikšić and Podgorica.

Our campaign involved 17 elementary and 3 secondary schools, counting together more than 10 000 students, among which over 1000 took part, directly or indirectly, in the "EUROSTARBUS" programme, while many more were involved in the "My city in Europe" art competition.

Considering the experience gathered in this project, as well as enviable number of volunteering activists working with EMIM, we are planning to realise a similar project in autumn 2005, this time solely organised by European Movement in Montenegro and possible local partners. We would also reconsider the proceedings of this campaign, aiming at establishing a more permanent character of such educational undertakings.

In other words, we would like this action to involve all (or most, depending on funds and organisational capacities) primary and secondary schools in Montenegro, and to be accompanied by a series of other concomitant actions which would adjust to the locally specific conditions concerning communication and organisation.
